Extended Family Photos {Dickinson, ND}

We went to my hometown-in-law, Dickinson, North Dakota for Thanksgiving this year. I was pretty excited when my sister-in-law asked if we should do cousin and family photos again this year. It has been a few years since our last Thanksgiving together. We have been doing this for our parents-in-law for the last several years and they always turn out so fun. There is just something special about cousins. :)

I knew this shoot would be a bit of a challenge just because real life, you know. And really, a photographer doing her own family photos is like a therapist doing her own therapy. It should not happen. But alas, I am a persistent little sucker and I like to forge through and do the things.

For this shoot, I was fresh off of my own family shoot a few weeks prior. While my own photos turned out amazing (thanks to my niece Lydia) the getting there part was quite the ordeal. That will be it’s own blog post. Let’s just say that after that, I was sassy about shooting my own family extended family session.

The night before our shoot, a few of the smaller members were contesting their outfits. Parents were doing their parent things. And it was just heading downhill. So I sat them all down the next morning and laid down the law.

  1. Parents are not allowed to talk. (hahahaha!) The kids liked that one!

  2. Grandparents must keep their cute little mouths nice and closed, too.

  3. Kids must only listen to and obey the photographer/auntie/mom.

  4. THE WHOLE TIME.

  5. Remember, no adults can talk.

  6. We only listen to Shannon.

    I said these things like a drill instructor and it was really fun to act like a boss. Check these out below and

    All joking aside though, we had a great time. It was chilly, but it was sure pretty!
