My crew 2018
2018 has been a wonderful year for our family! The boys are now 11, 9, and 7. Derrick and I are in a flucuating state of awe for how wonderful they are mixed with sheer exasperation as to how many times we have to repeat ourselves in order to get a a chore done. HAHA! Parenting is really so fun though! They are amazing boys and we adore every inch of each of them.
Below are some of the photos from our annual photoshoot. Once again this year, I planned out the shoot and then handed my camera over to my 14 year old niece who is my protege. Thanks Lydia! I really love these so much!
I used some of these photos for our Christmas card this year. Usually, every year, I want to write a letter about the old family but I don’t get around to it. Well, lucky for me, this year, we added a new furmily member, Goose the GoldenDoodle. And since he is as smart as he is cute, he decided to help me out and write the letter from his point of view this year. Keep scrolling after the photos to find out what Goose had to say about all of us this year.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, friends and internet. :)
FROM THE DESK OF GOOSE HEICK
Dear Friends & Family,
Hello humans! This is Goose the GoldenDoodle. You may not know me yet, so let me introduce myself. I am the newest addition to the Heick family. One day at the end of May, my new mom came and picked me up when I was 8 weeks old. She put me in a box with a bow and totally surprised me by giving me three of my very own boys to play with! Not only that, but the surprises kept coming because I also found out I was getting a wise old GoldenDoodle brother named Maverick. Apparently, there is some big movie coming out in the summer of 2019 and I think they named the movie after us. Top Gun has two characters named Maverick & Goose! I wonder if we can get royalties! After all, we totally do feel the need for speed.
Truthfully, Maverick doesn’t have a whole lot of speed anymore as he turned thirteen this year. I think he was supposed to be my boss and teach me the ropes around here. So far, the only thing he does is sleep and growl at me when I try to play with him.
Let me get to the point of this letter. I really wanted you to know about my new family and what they have been up to this year.
Let’s start with my favorite person, Chase. He likes football, baseball and tennis. He goes to school and always has the most chipper attitude as he gives me hug goodbye. I hear he is quite the entertainer at school and he is getting awesome grades. He loves math, gym and sarcasm. He is loving the 3rd grade and has a very busy social life. I know this because there are always extra boys playing with nerf guns and video games in my basement. I think Chase invites them over. I really love it when I sneak downstairs where I’m not allowed and all the boys are chasing me around the furniture. My boys named that game, “Goose on the Loose” and it is my all-time favorite thing to do.
Okay now I have to tell you something. Chase was holding my toy hostage, so i had to say he is my favorite. Since he is gone now, I can tell you that my real favorite is Leighton. Leighton is in the 5th grade this year and is excelling in academics. He is on a student leadership team at school and he still loves playing basketball and tennis. From what I can tell, he must be pretty good because he has so many trophies in his room. I am going to try really hard not to eat them!
Alright, now onto the baby brother, Beckett. I know I have already said that Chase and Leighton are my favorites, but have you seen my youngest boy’s dimple and missing front tooth? Who could blame a GoldenDoodle? Shhh…don’t tell Leighton or Chase but Beckett is totally my favorite. He is in the 1st grade this year and is having a great year. He loves math and just started guitar lessons. I wonder if they allow GoldenDoodles in rock bands? From what I hear, Beckett is really smart in school but he seems to like playing with his buddies after school even more. One thing that I think Beckett is the best at is snuggling. Although I think he is a little too good at it because he always steals my spot in mom and dad’s bed in the middle of the night.
My dad, Derrick, is a really fun dad. He goes to work every day at a place they call AgCountry. I think he does something with numbers. He has been there for 10 years and says he has a great job and works with really nice people. When he is not doing that, he is coming home and picking up one of my boys for practice or a game. He also loves to go on trips, take my boys hiking and camping (I wonder when they will include me?) and going on dates with my mom. I heard a rumor that he is taking everyone to Maui this coming January. I wonder if dogs can learn to snorkel? Oh boy, I hope I get to go!
And last but not least, let me tell you what my mom, Shannon has been up to. She stays busy taking care of all of us and keeping our house not looking like a tornado. She says having me around is almost like a having a new baby with all the toys. Don’t tell her, but every time she puts my toys away, I sneak over and take them back out. When she is not manning the house full of boys, she is out taking photos of families and newborns. And on Wednesday and Thursdays, she works at Valley Christian Counseling Center as a therapist. I hear that they have a job for me there when I get trained as a therapy dog. I can’t wait!
In case you wanted to know a few of things my family did this year, I can’t tell you because they never take me with. HAHA. Just kidding, I can tell you because my mom puts everything on Instagram and I hear I am getting my own account soon! Here are a few highlights from mom’s IG:
They took a few trips to the Black Hills, lots of tennis and basketball tournaments, spent time at Otter Tail Lake with Derrick’s family, went fishing in Devils Lake with ND’s best angler (Grandpa Steve) and took their annual family camping trip to Madeline Island, Wisconsin. They really enjoy spending time with their families. Oh, also, theygot me!
Well, that about covers it. My mom says I am supposed to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I don’t know what that really means but she says Christmas is about the best gift of all, Jesus. I heard that she used to put a small manger scene out in the living room but this year she was afraid I would eat baby Jesus.
Well, friends. I am going to sign off now so I can go sing a few of my favorite Christmas songs: Howl Be Home For Christmas and We Woof You A Merry Christmas!
